One person killed in Schuyler Co. fire

One person was killed as a result of a Schuyler County, Illinois fire on Wednesday.

According to Schuyler County Sheriff Don Schieferdecker, an autopsy on Thursday showed the person died of carbon monoxide and smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

The name of the victim has not been released as authorities continue to make proper identification through DNA analysis. No foul play is suspected in the cause of fire or cause of death.

A fire was reported shortly after noon on Wednesday at the property owned by David P. Zilly about 4 miles north of Bader, at the Schuyler and Fulton County line.

A neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from a machine shed. The large, metal shed was destroyed with a few areas still smoldering when the Sheriff's Office and Astoria Fire Department arrived at the scene.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Jim Boyd discovered a body in the remains of the building. The Schuyler County Coroner's Office was called to the scene at 12:37 p.m. and pronounced the victim dead shortly after.

The case is still under investigation.
