Nixon warns of layoffs if new budget passes in Missouri

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon

has issued a warning of layoffs and cuts to service if a new budget passes.

Nixon says that lawmakers are not acting responsibly if they pass a budget that reduces funding for the

Missouri motor vehicle division

The plan only funds the division for 2/3rd of the fiscal year starting on July 1st.

Some Republican lawmakers said that the partial funding plan was intended as an incentive to force the Nixon administration to stop making electronic copies of personal documents for people applying for driver's licenses.

Nixon has called the move unprecedented and that he would treat it like any annual appropriation and make the cuts that are necessary.
