The man investigators say caused a head-on collision that became international news turned himself into the Ralls County Sheriff's office on Thursday.The Ralls County Sheriff's office said Aaron Smith, 26, is charged with second-degree assault-operating a vehicle while intoxicated resulting in injury and persistent offender DWI-Alcohol.
Smith is accused in the Aug. 4 crash along on Missouri Route 19 that seriously injured 19-year-old Katie Lentz of Quincy.Smith is in the Pike County, Mo. jail on a $25,000 bond.
The crash thrust Lentz and the Ralls County first responders into the global news cycle after Rev. Patrick Dowling prayed with Katie before she was freed from the wreckage.
