The Roman Catholic Church has appointed a new bishop for the Diocese of Springfield.
Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Paprocki of the Archdiocese of Chicago will serve as the ninth bishop in the Springfield Diocese.
Paprocki was ordained in 1978.
He studied law at DePaul University College of Law and co-founded the South Chicago Legal Clinic to offer legal services to the poor.
He succeeds Archbishop George Lucas, who was named archbishop of Omaha last June.
Paprocki's appointment was announced Tuesday morning.
