NECAC: Don't be late for a very important date
Don't get left out in the cold when it comes to your health insurance.
That's the message from the North East Missouri Community Action Corporation regarding the Affordable Care Act.
NECAC wants to make sure you're not late for a very important date.
"There's a lot of confusion out there," NECAC Public Relations Officer Brent Engel said. "People are confused over what they need to do and how they need to go about doing it."
NECAC hosted a free session in Hannibal Thursday night to guide families, individuals and businesses through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
"The best advice is do your homework," insurance exchange navigator Tiffany Coleman-Dade said. "Know there are people out there who can help you, and you don't have to do this alone. Don't just go by what folks say or what you hear. That's not always accurate. Go to someone who knows."
Coleman-Dade is an insurance exchange navigator with Pike County Memorial Hospital and Eastern Missouri Health Services. She said there are plenty of area counselors on hand to help walk you through the process. The deadline is March 31st. Engel said that deadline will come sooner than you might think.
"It's kind of like your taxes," Engel said. "You wouldn't wait until April 14th to get them done, so why wait 'til March 30 to see if you need to apply for a plan under the Affordable Care Act?"
