National Tom Sawyer Days wraps up with Tom and Becky contest

It's a day of rides, games and good times at Hannibal's Tom Sawyer Days.

The Hannibal Jaycees kicked off Tuesday morning with their Fourth of July parade.

Broadway was lined with spectators celebrating a day of independence.

And the festivities wouldn't be complete without a carnival downtown.

For some - it's as simple as a day out with the family.

"We've been here the past few years. We're gonna keep coming," said Richard Talley, Hannibal resident.

Meanwhile, two of Mark Twain's most famous characters jumped off the page and came to life.

The annual Tom Sawyer and Becky Thatcher competition brought history to life to find the next face of Hannibal.

"It's a constant study of history and your facts and Mark Twain Quotes."

This year's winners are Eric Hudson and Jade Thomas.

Watch the announcement below.

They'll now represent Hannibal as ambassadors for a whole year.

"The fact that Mark Twain grew up here four to age 17 is just crazy. You live where an author, who was very successful, wrote his books. This year should be really really exciting."
