If it were not for one woman's persistence, we would not celebrate Thanksgiving as a national holiday.
That's just one lesson kids at Monroe Elementary school are learning this week thanks to Marci Keller's 2nd grade class.
The students put on a play called "The History of Thanksgiving".
It tells the story of Sarah Josepha Hale, who failed to convince four different presidents to make Thanksgiving a national holiday.
Finally, in the midst of the Civil War she convinced Abraham Lincoln.
The play also tells the story of the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving.
Teacher Marci Keller says the play teaches kids to be thankful for what they have and that different people can get along and work together.
The play was created by Anita St. Ledger, a former Quincy teacher that Keller worked with when she taught at Ellington School.
