Money meant for the family of a former Tri-State man fatally wounded in a movie theater shooting near Tampa, Florida in January has come up missing.
Chad Oulson, 43, died of injuries received in a dispute that erupted over texting during a movie.
A family spokesperson has confirmed that money was taken and action is being taken against a person involved.
"It's a terrible thing that has happened, adding to an already terrible situation," the family representative said. "Why anyone would take advantage of a mourning wife and daughter knowingly is shameful."
The family did not wish to release the amount of funds taken or the name of the person they believed to be involved.
The money comes from numerous fundraisers that were held for Oulson's wife Nicole and his young daughter.
Oulson was a graduate of Brown County High School in Mt. Sterling, Illinois.
Retired Tampa police officer, Curtis Reeves, 71, has been charged with second-degree murder.
