Moberly Regional Medical Center closing delivery unit
Fri, 02 May 2014 13:36:01 GMT — The Moberly Regional Medical Center announced Thursday the labor and delivery unit will close effective June 1. A press release from the hospital said that there has been a steady decline in the number of families who choose the medical center for their provider for childbirth. In 2013, around 1,100 babies were born to Moberly families, with only 167 delivered at Moberly Regional and the hospital projects only 130 births this year, according to the release. "Although there are a relatively small number of affected patients, we understand that these changes may create concern for those who had planned to deliver at MRMC," CEO Christian Jones told our sister station KTVO. With the closure of the delivery unit, the hospital said they will expand the surgical wing. "MRMC performed about 2,500 surgeries last year," Jones explained. "This additional space will accommodate the growing need for these procedures that our community has shown it needs."
