Mo. Supreme Court assigns new judge in Abel's murder case

(Left to Right) Michael Studer, 30, and Gary J. Wiltermood III, 22, both of Hannibal are charged with second-degree murder

The Missouri Supreme Court ordered an Adair County judge to hear the case of two men charged in the shooting death of an Abel's gas station clerk.

The state's highest court assigned Judge Russell Steele to hear the cases of Michael Studer, 30, and Gary Wiltermood, 22.

Both are charged with second-degree murder in the Oct. 6 shooting death of 61-year-old Adrienne Arnett.

Studer is accused of shooting Arnett during the 3 a.m. robbery at the Abel's Shell Station at 100 Shinn Lane. In a lengthy statement given to police, Wiltermood told Hannibal police investigators that he drove Studer to the gas station and participated in the robbery.

Wiltermood turned himself in to police later that day and gave his statement. Police later arrested Studer the same day.
