      MO Highway Patrol are recruiting

      In less than a month, Troop B's headquarters in Macon, Missouri will become a testing site for the 101st recruit class.

      "The Missouri State Highway Patrol is one of the best and finest, law enforcement agencies in the United States and we're always looking for people that are interested in becoming a Missouri state trooper," Sergeant Brent Bernhardt, a Missouri Highway Patrol Officer of Troop B, said.

      Requirements to become a trooper are all candidates must possess a minimum of 30 college credits, or two years of federal active duty military service with an honorable discharge, or two years of full-time post certified experience as a law enforcement officer with arrest authority at the time recruit training begins.

      Troopers are responsible for enforcing all Missouri laws.

      "Troopers are a general law enforcement officer our primary focus has been traffic safety since 1931 when we were created obviously Missouri state troopers not only promote safety on our roadways but we're enforcing all criminal law," Sgt. Bernhardt said.

      Whether it's a school bus crash to keeping the peace in Ferguson, Missouri State Troopers are there.

      Sergeant Bernhardt has been a trooper for more than 20 years and says it TMs one of the best decisions he's made.

      "I can tell you I wanted to be a Missouri State trooper ever since I was a little bitty boy cause I saw those troopers that my dad worked with as being very honorable men, gentleman, people that truly wanted to do the right thing," Sgt. Bernhardt said. "When I graduated my dad had the opportunity to, even though he retired as an employee with the Missouri Highway Patrol had the opportunity to give me my certificate, my diploma and one of the proudest moments of my life was to be able to stand before my dad, Sgt. Bernhardt said.

      The application deadline for the 2015 recruit class is October 6. Applications that are accepted now will be a part of the 101st recruit class that will begin in July 2015.
