Mo. governor appoints new Marion County prosecutor

Governor Nixon appoints David N. Clayton as Marion County Prosecuting Attorney.

A ten year attorney with the Missouri State Public Defender System will become the new Marion County Prosecuting Attorney.

Governor Jay Nixon announced Wednesday that he appointed David N. Clayton to fill the vacancy left by the departure of Tom Redington.

Doug Browne, assistant prosecutor has been managing the office in Redingtonâ??s absence.

"I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Marion County as their new Prosecuting Attorney," Clayton stated in a press release to the media. "I pledge to work hard to improve the safety and security of our community. I am thankful for Mr. Browne's years of service to our community and thank him for helping with the transition. There is a lot of work to be done and Iâ??m ready to get started.â??

Clayton has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Westminster College and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. He resides with his wife and son in Hannibal.

You may remember that Tom Redington was made associate circuit judge in Knox County by the governor on January 15.
