The Community Unit School District #4 school board met Wednesday night to discuss the district's $400,000 budget shortfall.
Superintendent Brian Kurz told KHQA he's working with the school board and teachers union to find ways to reduce the deficit.
He said the teachers will have to expect less than they expected in terms of a pay raise.
The State of Illinois has been late in providing funding to school districts across the state.
State government isn't giving schools as much money as it has in previous years.
The delays and reduced funding have contributed to the school district's deficit.
