Medical marijuana found in speeding vehicle

A Springfield, Ill. teenager is behind bars in connection with smuggling drugs into Illinois.
The Illinois State Police District 20 in Pittsfield report Nicholas M. Adkins-Embrey, 19, faces charges of drug possession of 500-2000 grams of cannabis, manufacture and delivery of 500-2000 grams of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Monday ISP Troopers stopped a black Toyota passenger car for speeding on Interstate 72 near milepost 35 in Pike County. During the stop, a K9 sniffed out drugs around the vehicle. The ISP K9 provided a positive alert to the odor of narcotics coming from within the vehicle.
The driver, Adkins-Embrey was found to have one and a half pounds of medical grade cannabis and drug paraphernalia inside the car with him.
Police believe the drugs were being smuggled from the state of Colorado to Springfield, Ill.
Adkins-Embrey, was arrested and lodged at the Pike County Jail.
