Mark Twain Lake public beach closed

Once again, the Mark Twain Lake public beach tested above the limit for E. Coli bacteria.

That means the beach will not be open to the public for the Memorial Day weekend.

This is the second week in a row the beach has exceeded federal standards. This weeks sample tested at 260.3.

The Missouri DNR says the group campgrounds will open on Friday as scheduled.

The DNR will test the water again next week. The beach will be closed until further notice.

E. coli can cause influenza-like illnesses and worse in people infected through open cuts or ingestion.
