Man dies in two-vehicle crash near Palmyra

A man died in a two-vehicle crash near Palmyra Friday morning.

Palmyra Police officers along with Palmyra Fire and Rescue, Marion County Sheriff deputies responded to a traffic crash at the intersection of E. Main Cross and US 61.

Police say that according to witnesses and evidence gathered at the scene, it appears a pickup driven by Robert Bross of rural Palmyra, attempted to cross the southbound lanes of US 61 from E. Main Cross Street and pulled into the path of a southbound semi.

The pickup was struck on the driver's side and incurred extensive damage. The impact from the semi pushed the pick up truck into the median knocking over a sign post and sign.

The driver of the semi was not injured, but had extensive damage to his tractor.

The driver of the pickup was pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn.

The road conditions at the time of the crash were partially snow covered and slushy. It is unclear if road conditions had any bearing on the crash. The driver of the pickup was not wearing a seat belt.
