Major Case Squad to investigate body found in river

A boater discovered a woman's body in the Mississippi River south of Hannibal Sunday.

It could take several weeks until we learn more details about that body found in the Mississippi River near Hannibal last weekend.

Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Shinn said authorities still do not know the woman's identity.

He added that her DNA has been entered into databases across the country.

The death of the woman found in the river last Sunday afternoon near Sawyer's Creek is considered a homicide.

Shinn said he does not expect to receive autopsy results for four to six weeks.

A Major Case Squad of investigators from throughout the area is meeting Thursday at the Marion County Sheriff's office to discuss the case.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the MSP at 660-385-2132 or the Marion County Sheriff's Department at 573-769-2077.
