A Macomb woman is behind bars after she tried swallowing heroin during a traffic stop, the McDonough County Sheriff's Office said.
Megan E. Goetz, 29, is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of hypodermic needles, aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.
A sheriff's deputy stopped Goetz for a speeding violation on Illinois Route 95 near County Road 2250 E near New Philadelphia, a press release said.
The deputy noticed ??indicators of narcotics activity?? and called for a K9 drug dog to sniff the car, the release said.
Goetz began to eat packets of heroin as deputies approached the car, the release said. They added that Goetz hit and fought with deputies as they tried to keep her from swallowing the drugs.
She was restrained and placed under arrested. She was taken to the McDonough County Jail pending a court appearance.
