Macomb residents get first look into new transit center

It was a project that took 14 months to build and more than four years to plan.

Macomb residents toured the new Macomb Transit Center at an open house Monday afternoon.

Before the public got a look inside, State and Federal dignitaries along with an invite only crowd attended a dedication ceremony.

U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood says this is a part of a response to communities that want to provide alternative transportation.

The transit center officially began operations about three weeks ago, but opened to the public Monday.

It was paid for by $14.8 million of federal and state funding.
