Macomb police check in on registered sex offenders

The Macomb Police Department conducted a residency check on registered sex offenders Tuesday night. The goal is to make sure addresses match the sex offender registry. KHQA rode along with Lieutenant Jeff Hamer with the Macomb Police Department. He visited several homes of registered to sex offenders.

For the residents that did not answer the door, he would leave an orange tag on the door requesting they contact him within three days.

"All departments are required by Illinois to perform one physical address check a year.I do one very public one, where I put a media release out. You can see it in the paper. I also do a series of covert checks, survey the house to make sure they still live there," said Lt. Jeff Hamer.

If the address and the offender don't match, that offender is arrested on a Class Three Felony.
