Area residents had a chance to remember loved ones by gathering in Lower Moorman Park in Quincy Sunday afternoon.
Dozens of people released about 500 butterflies during Blessing Hospice & Palliative Care's Butterfly Moments event.
The special ceremony enables residents to honor the memory of deceased loved ones by releasing a butterfly.
Carol Steinbrecher lost her father about a year ago.
She said she believes the butterflies represent her loved ones' souls.
"Coming out to flight saying that I'm here looking over you again and will always be there watching out for us," Steinbrecher said. "
"I think it helps give closure," Participant Nikki Buehler said. "It's just a way to honor that person and help remember them."
Proceeds benefit Blessing Hospice & Palliative Care, which delivers end-of-life care to the terminally ill in the area.
