The American Institute of Physics has named WIU's physics department as one of the largest physics master's degree granting department in the U.S.
Twenty-five other universities across the nation also made the cut.
Those 25 schools are responsible for 66 percent of all master's degrees in physics awarded each year in the nation.
Western's program is unique in the Midwest in the area of atomic, molecular and optical physics.
