As many of you know, Friday kicked off the holiday shopping season, and that shopping continued through the weekend.
But instead of crowds and long lines, a small community gift show and fundraiser displayed practical gifts at the Country Inn and Suites in Quincy today. This is the second year for the Christmas at the Country event.
Handmade jewelery was on display, as well as tupperware, handmade scarves and other unique items. It's designed to not only give gift ideas, but it also gives local businesses exposure. Organizer of the event Koretta Sykes tells KHQA the fundraiser is also about giving back to the community.
Entry fees will be donated to the Vision Literacy Center, to help area children.
"That is a children based center. Vision Literacy Center, they are unlocking learning barriers in children, and I feel like if we can impact our children, we impact out future, and because it's children, and they're into the holidays, I think this was a good organization to choose this year," said Sykes.
Last year, the event raised $500 for the Meals Plus group.
