      Living memorial honors Rushville physician

Dozens of people gathered around Rushville's Central Park Thursday night.

Dozens of people gathered around Rushville's Central Park Thursday night.

The community unveiled a bronze statue to honor the 88-year-old doctor who has been practicing medicine for 60 years.

Dr. Russell Dohner has charged patients $5 for more than 55 years.

He's delivered countless babies during his practice including Rushville's current mayor more than 50 years ago!

The slightly larger than life size statue features Dr. Dohner sitting on a park bench with a young child listening to his heart.

The purpose of this statue was to recognize Dr. Dohner and show our deep appreciation for everything he's done, his dedication," Organizer Charles D. Hood, Jr. said. "He's absolutely a wonderful person. He brought many children into the world and continues to bless everyone here."

A Salt Lake City sculptor designed the statue, which is still not completely paid for.
