Lightning strikes downtown Quincy building

Lightening struck a building at 1014 Maine St. in Quincy Monday night.

Lightning struck a building in downtown Quincy shortly after 8 p.m. Monday.

Residents reported hearing a loud strike. They went outside to find a brick chimney collapsed into the parking lot of the apartment buildings.

The chimney was located at the rear of the Adaptive Mobility System building at 1014 Maine St. A neighboring landlord said that Blessing Hospital owns the building.

At least two cars were damaged by the falling bricks.

Police were dispatched to the building shortly after 8:30 p.m.
