Lightning strikes a tree outside Ewing, Mo.

The following is a press release from the Ewing R4 Fire District:

Lightning struck a tree Monday morning on the Bonnie Bronestine farm at 25514 Hwy C east of Ewing.

The tree was hollow, and was burning up through the middle, shooting fire out multiple openings high in the tree. A full 500-gallon propane tank was near the base of the tree and was a concern.

A call was received at 10:58 a.m. and the first truck was on scene at 11:12 a.m.

Ewing Fire District responded with two trucks and five personnel. Lewis County Rural Electric also responded, as the original call was a transformer on a power pole was on fire.

We used the REC's bucket truck to get up & put water down the holes. Lair's Tree Service of LaGrange was called and arrived as the fire trucks were leaving at 12:20 p.m. said David Lomax of the Ewing R4 Fire District.
