Liberty farmer found dead on his ATV

A Liberty farmer died after an ATV crash at his rural farm.

Danny Hugenberg, 53, was found shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday by a search party formed after he didn't return home Monday afternoon.

Adams County Coroner Jim Keller pronounced him dead at 2:59 a.m.

Hugenberg left home at 1846 N. 1050th about 5 p.m. Monday to check on his crops. He didn't return. Friends, neighbors and relatives began a search for him about 7 p.m. The Adams County Sheriff's Office was called in to assist in the search about 10 p.m.

Keller said that it appeared like one of the ATV's wheels dropped off a path in which Hugenberg was driving. It struck a tree head-on. Hugenberg was still on the ATV when he was found, Keller said.

The investigation is still continuing.
