Legalized medical marijuana will create new challenges for Illinois businesses

Can you hire and fire employees that test positive for marijuana use?

What options do employers have if an employee shows up impaired because of marijuana use?

These are just a few of the questions that have been raised in a

      Crain's Chicago Business report

looking at the after effect of

legalizing medical marijuana use in Illinois.

The bill to make that happen is now sitting on

      Governor Pat Quinn's

      desk waiting for his signature.

The sponsor of the measure says that if the medical marijuana is legalized there would be a minimal impact on employers or businesses that already have a zero-tolerance drug policy.

The bill passed by the Illinois legislature is said to be the strictest measure of its kind in the nation.
