Lee County enacts burn ban

      Lee County, Iowa enacted a burn ban Thursday, April 10.

      Jeffrey L. Quigle, the State Fire Marshal, says that open burning in Lee County is a danger to life or property.

      â??It is therefore ordered that no person shall engage in open burning in Lee County effective April 10, 2014 at 1 p.m., except as specifically permitted by Iowa Code 100.40(3) until such time as Neal Gathers representing each fire department having all or part of their fire district within Lee County, notifies the State Fire Marshal that such conditions dangerous to life or property no longer exists,â?? a release said.

      The ban will remain in place until further notice.

      Any violation of this order is a simple misdemeanor according to the Department of Public Safety and the Lee County Sheriff's Office.
