It wasn't your typical ladies' night out in Quincy Tuesday night.
Several women turned out for a Ladies' Night out on the Water on the Quincy Bay.
It's a spinoff of Kayak Quincy, an event that started on Saturdays in Quincy a few years ago.
"I'm originally from St. Louis, and we started a thing down on Creve Coeur Lake called, 'Wednesdays on the Water,' said Kayak instructor Kevin Dempsey. "It turned out to be quite the success. People can informally gather after work on Wednesdays and paddle. This is our first night, and we're happy it's going to be a new tradition up here in Quincy."
KHQA spoke with one woman who got her family into the sport through Kayak Quincy on Saturdays.
"I brought my children a couple of times earlier this summer to see if they would like kayaking," said Michelle Meyer. "I wanted to see if they could handle it and also it's a great way to get out on the Mississippi River, because we do not own a boat."
If you missed Ladies' Night out on the Water, there will be another one that will take place a week from tonight on August 28th .
If you're interested in putting your kayaking skills to the test, there is a Quincy 5 Miler race for both men and women on September 15th.
