Knox County dispute ends in fatal shooting

An ongoing dispute between two Novelty, Mo. men ended in a mid-afternoon shooting and death Tuesday.

Investigators told KTVO reporter John Garlock that the incident happened around 3 p.m. just southwest of Novelty in Knox County.

According to officials, the victim, 67-year-old William "Bill" Bacon, was taken by ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center where KTVO was told he died in the emergency room.

The unnamed man accused of pulling the trigger is on 24-hour hold in the Adair County Jail. His name will not be released until the formal charges have been filed.

The dispute was reportedly about whether a county road was closed or not.

An investigation is being conducted by the Missouri State Highway Patrolâ??s Division of Drug and Crime Control and the Knox County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities told KTVO that the alleged shooter will likely face a charge of first-degree murder and a press release will be issued on Wednesday morning regarding the fatal shooting.
