Kicking off the 2012 battle against cancer in Adams County

Thursday night the thoughts of many in Adams County turned to the warmer weather of June 8th and 9th, the dates of the 2012 American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Adams County.

Thursday night's kick-off party honored the work of the past participants and set a goal of over one-hundred and forty thousand dollars for this year's relay. The torch of honorary chair was also passed from Dave Comer (Quincy's inspiring Chicken-Man) to fellow survivor Krista Veihl.

"The American Cancer Society did a ton for me and my family as I was going through my breast cancer battle. They have a wonderful lodge ... the Hope Lodge, that they have all over the country, that is an amazing place to stay when you are going through treatment and you have to stay a length of time. Phone calls all day and night when you are wondering what if, how long, how much and just a million different things that run through your head. They're there for you 24/7 and it's a great feeling to know that there is always someone there for you." Krista Veihl, 2012 Adams County Relay Honorary Chair.
