KHQA announces promotions

KHQA announced two management promotions Thursday.

Carol Sowers, longtime anchor and Executive News Director was named Vice-President/Public Affairs and Nora Baldner was named News Director. The announcement was made by Mara Clingingsmith, President & CEO of KHQA.

Sowers will be responsible for public affairs programming, community outreach, government affairs and special projects for KHQA 7 (CBS), KHQA 7.2 (ABC) and She will continue to anchor the station's evening news programs.

Baldner assumes supervision of all aspects of KHQA News on its media platforms.

Sowers joined KHQA in 1985 after graduation from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. She was an anchor/reporter until 1996 when she was named News Director. She has received numerous reporting and community service awards, including the Paul Clarkson Media Achievement Award from the Quincy Exchange Club, and was named a YWCA Woman of Achievement.

Baldner began her broadcasting career at KOMU TV, Columbia MO and served as an anchor-reporter for WICS-TV, Springfield, IL and WGEM-TV. She has also served as an associate instructor in communications at Quincy University and a columnist for the Quincy Herald-Whig. She is well-known for her work with the Arthritis Foundation through the Nora Baldner Golf Charity. She contributed to team coverage that received the Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in Journalism and the Sigma Delta Chi Award from the Society of Professional Journalists and received a YWCA Woman of Achievement Award. She received a B.A. from the University of California"Davis and an M.A. from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
