A teenager arrested in an Oct. 20 crash that killed a Keokuk man entered a plea deal earlier this week.
Devin L. Lewis, 19, was originally charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Howard Vincent. He pleaded guilty to lesser charges of driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash.
Lewis will remain free so long as he complies with the terms of his probation, according to court records.
The prosecuting attorney said that he didn't have sufficient evidence to prove that Lewis' intoxication led to Vincent's death.
The Lee County Sheriff's Department said Vincent, 35, was northbound on Highway 218 when his vehicle was struck head on by another vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was later identified as Lewis, deputies said.
Vincent was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lewis fled on foot, investigators said. He was located shortly after at his home.
