Keokuk fire crews battle trailer fire

Firefigthers in Keokuk responded Thursday afternoon to a fire in a field on the western outskirts of the city.

The Keokuk Fire Department answered a mutual aid call for at 3936 Valley Road shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

Because of the remote location the fire department had to use 3 brush trucks from the DesMoines, Jackson and Montrose fire departments to reach the fire.

According to a phone call with the daughter-in-law of the property owner Jim Steven's, the trailer was be used as storage by a friend of Steven's

When the fire department arrived the trailer was fully engulfed.

The Keokuk Fire Department was on the scene for about 2 hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Jackson Township fire department.

The Keokuk Fire Department responded to that mutual aid call because the Jackson township fire department had its hands full with a house fire at 3403 277th Ave.

Crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed.

The attached garage was already burned and the fire had moved to the living room.

The home belongs to the Dean Nichols family.

The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
