Iowa driver goes around barricade, dies in rollover

A West Point, Iowa man is dead after his SUV rolled over and he was ejected from the crash Friday.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office, West Point Fire and Rescue and Lee County EMS responded to the crash at 11:23 a.m.

Clifford Jerome Hermes, 66, was driving his 2003 GMC Envoy westbound on Chalkridge Road, according to Lee County Sheriff James A. Sholl, when he came upon the intersection of 265th Ave. and the County Secondary Roads Department had closed Chalkridge Road with a barricade.

According to the sheriff's office, Hermes went around the barricade and entered the north ditch where the SUV rolled and he was ejected.

Hermes was pronounced dead at the scene.
