UPDATE: 10/18/17

American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 611 President Danny Homan has now issued a statement fallowing an assault on a correctional officer at the Iowa State Penitentiary Wednesday.

In the statement, Homan says a correctional officer at the penitentiary was stabbed five times by an inmate with affiliations to a white supremacist gang wielding two ten-inch shanks.

Homan added that this incident comes only a few days after an assault against a correctional officer Saturday by different inmate with affiliations to a white supremacist gang.

Homan also stated, "We are demanding that the Department of Corrections meet with us to discuss this health and safety crisis before someone gets killed.”
