Illinois Senate could vote on pension plan Thursday

The union supported plan to deal with the ongoing pension crisis in Illinois cleared a Senate Committee on Wednesday.

The plan may go the floor on Thursday.

But opponents say that the plan which gives workers and retirees the option to choose the benefit package they want, will not save enough money.

Senate President John Cullerton expect the measure to survive the challenge from one group of retirees that threatens to sue if the legislation passes.
