Officials in Illinois say the state is on track to break records for the number of people seeking a Firearms owner's Identification card, or FOID card.
Right now, there is more than a 60-day wait for a FOID card, and it may get longer.
Gun shop owners say their customers are reporting having to wait 10 to 15 weeks for a card that is supposed to be in their hands in 30 days or less.
Illinois State Police say more than 70 thousand applications have been submitted so far this month, on-track to be a program record.
The Elgin Courier-News reports state police received 338,610 FOID applications last year.
Currently, there are about 1.5 million state residents with FOID cards.
