      Illinois' lost and found

Quincy, Ill.-- We're all looking for a way to save a buck.

But what if you could add more money to your bank account without even working? You could do just that this weekend at Washington Park. Illinois State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias offered the Cash Dash search. By law the state holds on to unclaimed property.

So, the program searches for lost, forgotten or abandoned cash and other assets that may belong to you or your ancestors. It can be anything from long lost bank accounts to entire estates that never made it to a rightful owner.

"We have about $2 million in unclaimed assets that we're holding. But we do travel all over the state of Illinois. We do have a lot of assets to give back to people, so we really encourage them to go to our website," said Steve Klokkenga with the Illinois State Treasurers Office.

The program is free and you can even do it on your own. Click here to get started
