Illinois expands Medicaid program

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn has signed a historic expansion of the Illinois Medicaid program to cover low-income adults without children.

This measure is a large portion of President Barack Obama's health care law.

The new law extends Medicaid benefits to another half million uninsured Illinois residents.

The federal government would pay costs for three years.

The state of Illinois would have to take on the added costs to keep the program and benefits going after that.
