Taxpayers now have an easy way to check on the status of their Illinois tax refund.
Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka unveiled a system Monday that allows taxpayers to see if their payments have been processed by entering their names and Social Security numbers on a comptroller's
office web page
They may also enter an email address and phone number to receive notifications when their payment is processed.
According to Topinka, taxpayers "no longer have to wonder if the check is in the mail."
In addition to registering for tax return notification, the page allows taxpayers to view a history of their return payments, a breakdown of state spending and bill backlog information.
The site also links to the comptroller's "transparency" sites called the "Ledger" and the "Warehouse."
