Health officials in Illinois and Adams County issued a warning about buffalo fish taken from the Mississippi River.
The Illinois and Adams County health departments issued the warning Wednesday for anyone who purchased buffalo fish from Fresh Farms International Market in Niles, Illinois after January 30.
Two reported instances of Haff disease are attributed to the fish. The skeletal disease is thought to be caused by a toxin sometimes found in buffalo fish in the Mississippi River.
The rare disease can cause anything from muscle pain to acute kidney failure.
Officials say you should discard the fish and if you believe you're ill, contact your doctor or local health department.
