Catholics are known for eating fish on Fridays during Lent, and the Hannibal Nutrition Center is known around town as the place to eat every year on Good Friday, no matter what your religious affiliation.
For 22 years, the Nutrition Center has hosted the Good Friday Fish Fry. It's a major fundraiser that typically brings in more than $4,000. The money goes to the home-delivered meal program.
This year's meal is even more important than usual. The Riedel Foundation has agreed to match up to $11,000 in donations to the Nutrition Center. That money will also go to offset the cost of the 10,000 home delivered meals the Center serves each month. The seniors who receive that meal are generally very low income, and give an average of $1.15 per meal.
