House Republican Leader Tom Cross stops in Quincy

House Republican Tom Cross is stopping in Quincy to announce his candidacy for Illinois Treasure.

House Republican Leader Tom Cross made a stop in Quincy Thursday afternoon to announce he's running for Illinois Treasurer.

His stop at the Quincy Regional Airport was part of his two-day tour covering seven cities.

Cross said he knows the budget as well as any person and wants the treasurer's office to play a bigger role in making sure it's balanced.

"You can't just tell everybody when you leave General Springfield in May that it's balanced, knowing that none of these numbers are real. So you have to be honest with yourself and the public and live within those numbers and we haven't done that," Cross said.

A former prosecutor, Cross said he's not afraid to take the state to court to get the job done.

DuPage County Auditor Bob Grogan is Cross' GOP opponent.
