The Horizons soup kitchen is expanding its ability to meet the needs of people in this community.
Horizons will join the Peoria based Midwest Food Bank as a distribution point for food from its food pantry.
Once a month 26 pallets of food will come from Peoria to Quincy and Horizons will then facilitate the distribution of the food to local pantries.
Horizons executive Director Sarah Stephens says that this would not be possible without the more than 300 people who volunteer their time each month.
"In 2013 alone they served over 12,000 hours," Stephens said. "We have the manpower available to help see this plan through and to help facilitate this distribution to the local area pantries."
There will be no cost for the food to the pantries.
Stephens is inviting local food pantries to contact Horizons if they are interested.
The first distribution will be on April 21.
