Help the Quincy Fire Department 'Keep the Wreaths Red'

The Quincy Fire Department wants you to help keep the wreaths red this holiday season.

Each fire station in Quincy has hung a wreath with red light bulbs.

From now until January 2, the department will count the number of house fires it fights. Every time there's a fire, one red bulb will be changed to a white one on each wreath.

Quincy Fire Chief Joe Henning says it helps remind the community that many home fires can be prevented.

"We're very fortunate and blessed in our community that we don't have a lot of home fires, but we do have them," Henning said.

"The idea is that the only way to keep them from happening is to keep that awareness level up. If we constantly remind the public of things they can do to keep their homes safe, we should be able to prevent these fires," he said.

This is the third year for the wreaths campaign. The Quincy Fire Department has had to change only one bulb in the past two years.
