Hannibal students get a hands-on lesson with Mother Nature

Students plant their seed

Students in America's Hometown are getting hands on experience with Mother Nature.

Second graders at Oakwood Elementary in Hannibal learned how to plant a seed with help from community members.

The plants the students grow will then be used for the Common Ground Community Garden later in the Spring.

The students are doing this in part of the school's theme "Growing Leaders, One Seed at a Time."

Students like Victoria Gouch enjoyed learning how to plant.

"We got to get dirt and put it in cups and we're about ready to put the seeds in," said Gouch. "We probably get to water them and then we're going to keep them maybe in our classroom. I like planting because we had one in our backyard."

Eight classes at Oakwood Elementary are being apart of the planting project.
