Hannibal Regional Hospital has lifted the restriction of children under the age of 16 from visiting patients.
"Although enterovirus is currently circulating in many states, visits to our ER for respiratory illness among children, adolescents and young adults have decreased to levels comparable to this time last year," Infection Preventionist Mary Bennett said. "We no longer feel it is necessary to restrict children age 16 and younger from visiting inpatient areas."
The hospital previously had asked children 16 and under and anyone with symptoms including fever, runny nose, sneezing, cough, mouth blisters, body and muscle aches and/or a rash to refrain from visiting hospital patients.
The restriction was made due to recent outbreaks of enterovirus in Missouri and Illinois.
