Hannibal man arrested for DUI, assault

Hannibal police arrested 49-year-old Gerald A. Maple of Hannibal Saturday morning.
While on partol, an officer witnessed a female passenger of a vehicle being assaulted by the driver.
The officer attempted to find out what was happening, the car sped off.
The officer pursued the vehicle and saw the female passenger try to get out of the car while it was moving.
The officer arrested Maple once both cars stopped.
According to the police report, Maple was taken to the police department where he became belligerent and assaultive with officers.
Maple was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Domestic Assault, Resisting Arrest, Felonious Restraint (Felony), Fail to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, Reckless Driving, No proof of Insurance and Driving While Suspended and released to the Marion County Jail on a 24 hour hold.
The female victim who was assaulted did not require emergency medical treatment.
